Climate shocks are increasingly linked to displacement, food insecurity, water stress, disease risk and resource-based conflict. Floods, droughts and environmental degradation can destroy livelihoods, disrupt access to services, damage shelters and increase tension over land, water and grazing. Climate resilience is therefore a practical protection and development priority.

HRI’s Climate and Environment cluster promotes climate-smart agriculture, natural resource management, flood and drought resilience, water management, environmental protection and disaster risk reduction. The cluster links with food security, WASH, peacebuilding, governance and durable solutions. It should encourage community-led adaptation and risk-informed planning.
