Peacebuilding is central to HRI’s identity because humanitarian and development gains cannot be sustained where communities remain divided by violence, mistrust, revenge, trauma, resource competition or political manipulation. Social cohesion creates the conditions for safe movement, local cooperation, shared services, market recovery and collective resilience.

The Peacebuilding and Community Cohesion cluster promotes dialogue, reconciliation, non-violence, cultural exchange, inter-communal mediation, trauma-informed approaches and local peace structures. HRI should work with traditional leaders, women leaders, youth groups, religious actors, civil society, local authorities and community peace committees to strengthen trust and conflict resolution mechanisms.
