CLUSTER 2: NUTRITION, CMAM AND MATERNAL-CHILD SUPPORT

CLUSTER 2: NUTRITION, CMAM AND MATERNAL-CHILD SUPPORT

Nutrition is central to child survival, maternal wellbeing, learning capacity and household resilience. Malnutrition weakens immunity, increases disease risk, reduces school readiness and deepens vulnerability during displacement, floods, conflict and food insecurity. HRI’s nutrition cluster should focus on prevention, early identification, referral and community education.

The cluster supports community-based management of acute malnutrition, screening, growth monitoring and nutrition education for children under five, pregnant women, lactating mothers and other nutritionally vulnerable groups. It links with food security, health and WASH to address the immediate and underlying causes of malnutrition. The cluster also promotes locally appropriate diets, breastfeeding awareness and household-level practices that protect child nutrition.
